Seasonal Seed Collector-Field Lead

Aski Reclamation LP is staffing up for our 2023 Seed Collection Program and is looking for a motivated individual to lead the collecting crew.

Position description

The Seed Collector-Field Lead is primarily responsible for ensuring the seed collection team is transported to the correct work site where they will collect plant materials for future restoration projects.  Reporting to the Project Coordinator for this program, the Lead will actively work in the field with the seed collectors, provide oversight of their work, ensure the team is adhering to proper safety protocols and actively update the Seed Specialist and Project Manager throughout the duration of the project.

Work Environment

Aski’s 2023 seed collection site locations are throughout the South Peace Region, and there is a daily check in at the Aski office near Moberly Lake, BC.  This role is a hybrid between office and field work and is best suited for someone who loves to work outdoors.

Major Duties

  • Map plant collection locations using a GPS/iPad and navigate collection team to the sites(s)
  • Work with health and safety coordinator to identify new site location risks
  • Update Emergency Response Plans for various locations
  • Ensure collection crew is following safety protocols, wearing PPE, and adhering to schedules
  • Accurately identify plant species and their life cycle stages both in office and in the field
  • Collect mature & viable plant seeds/materials
  • Collect other field data as required or requested by Project Manager or Seed Specialist
  • Follow procedures and guidelines to ensure a representative sample of genetic variation is obtained
  • Follow outlined procedures to process and store seeds to ensure viability
  • Office input of collected field data
  • Weekly submission of receipts and daily tickets (time and safety) to the project administrator
  • Ensure collection crew is submitting daily tickets

Qualifications and Experience

  • Class 5 Drivers License with a clean abstract
  • Flexibility for work schedule to shift within the week to meet seed maturation dates
  • OFA Level 1 and WHMIS 2015 considered an asset, though training can be provided
  • Must be physically fit and capable of lifting, walking, bending, and carrying
  • Must be reliable, responsible, and able to effectively lead a team
