Regular WorkshopsThe Sheet Harbour Area Resource Centre offers the following workshops on a regular basis. For more information on dates and times, call Dawn at 885-3593 or Earline at 885-2810. Assertive CommunicationHow you interact with others can be a source of considerable stress in your life. Communicating assertively can reduce that stress by teaching you how to stand up for your rights, without bullying others or letting them bully you. Assertive communication can also help you handle difficult family, friends, and co-workers more easily without added stress and conflict. Communicating using an assertive approach will help you to learn how to demand your rights in a positive way (whether at home or at work), to express your personal likes and dislikes, to talk about yourself without becoming self-conscious, to accept compliments comfortably, to disagree with someone openly, to ask for clarification and to learn how to say "no". Connecting the Dots Believe in yourself...Promote yourself...SUCCEED! Looking for work can be a tough job. It takes effort to seek out an opening, go through the application process, and do it all over again, until landing a job. Maintaining healthy self-esteem is essential for the job seeker during these times to cope with the "No's" that come before the important "Yes". This workshop will cover:;p>
Interview Skills to Open Doors After completion of the Interview Skills to Open Doors workshop, you will feel confident in dealing with a variety of interview topics, such as: behavioural/situational questions, commonly asked questions, and difficult questions. During the day, information will be provided on verbal/non-verbal communication, coping techniques, and a mock interview will be tailored to your career choice. The Formula for Employment Success After completing this workshop, participants will be able to confidently use proven job search techniques, present effective resumes and cover letters, search the Internet for employment, and research potential employers. Portfolio Development Portfolio Development is an intensive, comprehensive and productive program to allow clients to develop a skills and learning portfolio. Over a thirty-hour, facilitated process, 8-12 participants each build a complete and detailed inventory of what they know and can do. Not only are these skills and learning identified and described but evidence and documented proof are provided. Since almost all of us seriously underestimate what we know and can do, this process of 'discovery' and self-recognition significantly boosts the participant's confidence in their capacity to learn new things. New possibilities and opportunities open up and motivation to achieve new goals and objectives increases. The product - usually a three-ring binder containing a coherent, well organized and attractively presented inventory of skills and learning - is a permanent career/life asset with multiple uses and applications. Self-Esteem Workshop Self-esteem is the opinion you have of yourself. It is based on the job you do, your purpose in life, what you have accomplished, how much you value yourself, and how you think others see you. People can have either low self-esteem or high self-esteem. Low self-esteem can prevent you from reaching your full potential while high self-esteem can open new doors for you. |
